Excuse Note Portal

Hull Jackson families may upload excuse notes via the Excuse Note Upload Portal, which are received by our attendance clerk.
Documenting Excused Absences
-
The parent or guardian of the student must send in a written note explaining why the student missed school within three days of the student’s return to school after being absent.
-
Because students sometimes lose notes or forget to turn them in, the parent or guardian should make sure the designated school staff in the front office has received the written excuse notes.
-
The parent or guardian should keep a copy of the written excuse note for personal record.
-
If a written excuse note is not turned in, the absence will be considered an unexcused absence.
-
Absences will be marked on the student’s attendance record as either excused or unexcused. The parent or guardian can request copies of the student’s attendance record from the school’s front office.
Review the MNPS attendance policies and procedures for more information.

School-Parent Compact
Parents play a critical role in the success of their students. Hull Jackson is committed to a proactive approach toward family and community engagement, with our goal being to realize our school mission, vision, commitments, and achievement goals as listed in our School-Parent Compact.
Parent and Family Engagement Policy
The staff at Hull-Jackson Elementary School realizes the importance of working together with our families to provide students with the highest quality educational opportunities possible. As a Title I school, we will develop a solid home-school-community partnership that will enhance the learning environment of all students through our school-wide model of using federal funds. We strive to align our policy with the District Title I Parent and Family Engagement Policy.
Policy Purpose
Our Parent and Family Engagement Policy outlines how parent input is utilized in developing our school program. It also describes how the school provides parents with the information and training necessary to support the educational process. The policy was developed jointly with parents and staff in response to feedback from the instructional Leadership Team, which includes a parent(s).
Parent-Student-Teacher Compact
To enhance the cooperative effort of parents, teachers, and students and ensure every student’s success at Hull-Jackson, the stakeholders have jointly created a Parent/Student/Teacher Compact outlining the commitments of all members. After parent input, the compact is revised, distributed to parents, and kept on file yearly in the office and on the school’s website.
Title 1 Funds
Funds are spent to hire wrap-around services, purchase instructional programs and materials, provide teacher training, and pay expenses necessary to implement parent involvement activities. A Title I meeting is held annually to discuss the above and additional aspects of Title I. A calendar or flyers of parent meetings, events, and activities are distributed to all families.
Parent Meeting and Training
Hull-Jackson Elementary offers many opportunities for our parents to receive additional information. These events include an Open House, Curriculum Night, Parent-Teacher Conferences and Teacher meet and greets. For the 2025–2026 school year, Hull-Jackson plans to implement more parent training sessions to help parents understand the district’s curricula and state standards. These sessions will also help parents better prepare students to transition into school and to new grade levels. In these sessions, parents will be provided with materials, ideas, and suggestions for working with their children at home. We welcome parent input and, if actionable, will implement training or assistance suggestions.
Parent and Family Participation
We value the opinions and ideas of all parents. Therefore, we strive to keep all parents informed and involved through newsletters, callouts, meetings at various times, social media, and surveys. Our policy is developed jointly by an Instructional Leadership Team complied of teachers, parents, and community representatives. We will strive to respond to suggestions in a timely manner.
We will conduct an annual meeting each year to inform all parents about our participation in the Title1 program and the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), including staff qualifications, school choice, safe schools, Supplemental Services, and input for improvement.
For the 2025–2026 school year, we will offer many volunteer opportunities for various school activities. Our PTO and Pencil partners are very active in our school. If you want to volunteer at Hull-Jackson Elementary School, please sign up at the link below.
We believe communication between home and school is critical for ensuring each child’s success at Hull-Jackson Elementary School.
Our school provides a yearly Open House and Meet and Greet, regular PTO meetings, as well as conferences where teachers explain the School Compact and state standards, provide a description and explanation of our curriculum, clarify teacher expectations, discuss forms of academic assessments used to measure student progress, and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet.
Each year, all parents receive frequent student progress reports, including skill proficiency, attendance, behavior, and effort.
Our school’s expectations are for teachers to communicate with parents via report cards, newsletters, written notes, phone calls, and e-mails. We offer parent conferences and meetings daily, before, after, and during teacher planning times to accommodate parent schedules.
Written communication will be provided in an understandable format and language using various techniques. Our school’s website, newsletters, and callouts are available to inform parents about classroom activities, arrival and dismissal times, procedures, and breakfast/lunch schedules. We also utilize our school marquee to inform parents of school-wide activities and programs and important dates.
Parents’ opinions are valued and encouraged through Hull – Jackson Elementary’s email regarding policies, progress, or any suggestions to help improve their child’s education and the learning process.
